#FinanceFridays: Mental Health and Money

Have you ever noticed a correlation between your mental health and how you manage money? There can be a direct correlation between our mental health journeys and money management. For example, being in debt can result in various emotions from guilt and embarassment to grievance. Alternatively, being in debt can also result in stress and anxiety disorders and even, depression.

It is important to address our budgeting skills and mental health states periodically to see if either is impacting the other. According to a study by Purdue University, high levels of financial stress, as with other stressors, can manifest itself through physical symptoms such as anxiety, headaches/migraines, compromised immune systems, digestive issues, high blood pressure, muscle tension, heart arrhythmia, depression and a feeling of being overwhelmed. This indicates how pertinent it is to address our finances and mental health regularly and consistently to ensure we stay healthy and in optimal health to be able to manage our lives, including our financial situations and mental / physical health.

When have you noticed your finances impact your mental health or vice versa? I'd lovet to hear how you learned to overcome your stressors and challenges and fought back to regain your mental health and a strong money management regime. Share your story in the comments below, I'd love to learn! Signed, Filipina Budget Girl.
